The University of Macerata was founded in 1290 and is one of the oldest universities in Europe. With deep historical roots in Macerata, the university is committed to innovation in teaching and research. In the various degree programmes, students can pursue further education in the following subject areas: Law, Political Science and International Relations, Economics and Business, Education, Tourism and Cultural Heritage, Communication, Languages, Philosophy and History.
City
The city of Macerata is a quiet yet lively city, located between the sea and the mountains and is a perfect balance between nature and anthropogenic architecture. Macerata hosts numerous cultural events, some of which enjoy an international reputation, such as the opera season "Macerata Opera" and the singer-songwriter festival "Musicultura", both of which take place in the unique and spectacular setting of the Sferisterio Arena.
You apply for the double programme at the Viadrina International Affairs Department. Detailed information on the application procedure and application deadlines can be found at Application.
Prerequisites:
- Only for students in the Master International Business Administration at Viadrina with the specialisations in FINE, M&M or the General Track.
- Please also note the information under the point Language skills.
Students whose native language is not English must have knowledge of English (min. level B2) or a Bachelor's degree completed in English.

During your studies at UniMC, you will be enrolled in the "International Economic Relations" track. You must earn 64 ECTS from UniMC and attend the following lectures:
- Foreign Language (8 ECTS)
- Development Economics (8 ECTS)
- International Business Strategy (8 ECTS)
- International Trade Law (mod. Theory + Applied) (8 ECTS)
- Elective Courses (8 ECTS)
- Extracurricular Activities (8 ECTS)
- Final Thesis (including academic writing) (12 + 4 ECTS)
General information on the recognition procedure can be found on the pages of Viadrina International Affairs under Recognition. The information listed there also applies to students on the double degree programme. You must discuss your choice of courses with Torsten Glase in order to ensure their recognition at the Viadrina.
In order to obtain a degree at the Viadrina, the specified modules in your degree programme must be completed in full. For this purpose, you can have the courses from abroad that you have taken as part of the double programme recognised by arrangement.
Recognition according to the agreement with the UniMC in the double programme:
- The two courses "Development Economics" (8 ECTS) and "International Trade Law (mod. Theory + Applied)" (8 ECTS) can be recognised together for 3 courses with 6 ECTS each in FINE at the Viadrina.
- The course "International Business Strategy" is recognised for M&M, equivalent to 6 ECTS at Viadrina.
- The course "Electives" is recognised by us for an equivalent course (6 ECTS).
- "Extracurricular activities" can be recognised for (6 ECTS) in the non-economics module at Viadrina.
- The masters thesis, including the course "Academic Writing", is recognised with 24 ECTS at Viadrina.
- Students can complete their Master's thesis at Viadrina or UniMC and choose supervisors accordingly.
- Students must comply with the procedures and deadlines of the institution where they are completing the final thesis.
- The supervising institution grades the final thesis according to its standards, and the partner institution recognises the masters thesis according to its own grading system.
- Students must write the final thesis in English.
- The host institution issues the diploma to the visiting students if all conditions of this agreement are met. The UniMC will only issue the diploma after payment of the fees for issuing and sending the diploma.
Accommodation

Insurance
All students must be in possession of proof of health insurance valid in Italy for the entire duration of their stay in the country. This applies to both EU and non-EU citizens. You will also need the Codice Fiscale, which you must also apply for when studying in Italy. Further information on the Italian health system can be found here.
