The European University Viadrina was founded by legal act on 15 July 1991. In October of the following year, 460 students enrolled. Today, with around 5,000 students from over 100 countries, the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) can be counted among the most international universities in Germany.
The anniversary of its founding on 15 July 1991 marks the start of a series of activities reflecting on the Viadrina’s history and its future role until October 2022 - the date when the first students came to the Oder river 30 years ago. These included exhibitions, seminars, lecture series and, last but not least, flags that represented the Viadrina at different spots around the twin city of Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice.
