Requirements

• The double degree programme is only available for students enrolled for the BA courses International Business Administration and Economics, and International Business Administration at the Viadrina.

• At the time of your departure to Nancy you must have completed at least four semesters at the Viadrina.
• You need to have sufficient English skills.

English is the language of tuition. The ICN requires proof of language skills before you commence your stay abroad: Common European Framework B2, e.g. UNICERT II, TOEFL: 80, IELTS: 6, Certificate of Cambridge level C. 

Knowledge of French is advantageous for everyday life. However, it is not a precondition.

Winter semester: Mid-September – mid/end December 
Summer semester: Beginning/mid-January – mid/end May

Please keep in mind when planning your studies that the academic calendars in Germany and France differ. Double degree students start their studies at the ICN in the winter semester in September. It is not possible to start in the summer semester. You stay in Nancy for one year.

Choice of course: During your period of study at the ICN you have to gain a total of 60 ECTS points. You receive a fixed course timetable and have to complete all courses. Most courses last 3-5 weeks whereas a few last several months with 2-3 lectures per week, per course. Although there is a high number of courses, these have a relatively low number of ECTS points and are, therefore, not as work intensive.

Type of teaching: Tuition takes place from 09:00 am to 05:00 pm usually in groups of 40-80 including many international students. It is usual to make group presentations and to write papers. Case studies are also popular. The focus is mainly on marketing and management. International lecturers and representatives of business often teach at ICN. You are required to attend. Language courses are available in the evenings.

In order to receive a degree from Viadrina it is necessary to complete the modules in your course of study. For this purpose, you can, in consultation with us, have courses recognized which you completed as part of the double degree programme abroad. In order to obtain a French degree, you have to provide ICN with your degree certificate from Viadrina. ICN then issues you a degree certificate.

You also have to complete a final assignment at ICN. However, this is similar to a seminar paper at Viadrina. This can be recognized as an examination certificate within the framework of the study regulations of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics. The regulations of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics apply in the case of the final assignment which is completed at the Viadrina.

The Bachelor Thesis is written and supervised at the Viadrina, but additionally you also have to write a thesis at the ICN. However, the thesis at the ICN is more like a seminar paper at the Viadrina and can also be recognized as an examination certificate within the framework of the study regulations of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. The regulations of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration apply to the thesis, which is made at Viadrina.

A semester off: You are generally free to take one or two semesters off for your stay abroad. However, in this case, you cannot receive acceptance for foreign certificates or examinations. You cannot take the semester off in which you do your final assignment.

Health insurance: If you have compulsory German health insurance and possess a European Health Insurance Card you are entitled to basic coverage in other European countries. However, if you stay abroad for a longer period it is recommended that you take out additional insurance.

Accommodation: The university has several halls of residence in which furnished rooms can be rented. The monthly rent amounts to approx. €400. In order to make sure you get a room you should take care of it in advance. Furthermore, it is possible to rent private furnished rooms. The rent is between €250 - €400. As an exchange student, you have a right to housing benefit in France which can be applied for at the Caisses d’Allocations Familiales (CAF). The “taxes d'habitation”, or accommodation tax, is usually included in your rent. Please make sure that this is the case when you conclude your rental contract, otherwise you will be obliged to pay this additional expense.

The Journey: Is possible by air or by rail. The student organization “Globe and Co” provides a pick-up service from the railway station.

Living expenses: Approx. €700 - €900.

Visa: Not necessary for EU citizens with a valid passport or identity card. If you are not a EU citizen you should refer to the visa regulations on the website of the French Embassy.
