Academic Programme – Reception – Concert
On Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 4 pm in the Logensaal of the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), we will celebrate the opening of the Competence Network Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies Frankfurt (Oder) – Berlin (KIU).
The KIU is a project funded by the German Academic Exchange Service for a period of four years to strengthen Ukraine-related research, teaching, networking and transfer activities. Initiated and managed by the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), KIU includes the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS), the Humboldt University of Berlin, the Free University of Berlin, the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the Wissenschaftskolleg Berlin, as well as many partner institutions from Ukraine and other European countries.

With our opening ceremony, we celebrate and launch an ambitious programme that includes a Ukraine Studies Teaching Certificate, summer schools, a guest residency program for international scholars and much more. We are looking forward to welcome guests, scholars, students, and interested audience either on site or online via livestream. Please register until 8 July 2024 using the following link:

Keynote Lecture
- Prof. Dr. Tamara Hundorova, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
Prof. Hundorova is Chair of the Department of Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at the Institute of Literature, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and Associate of Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute. Being a Ukrainian literary critic, culturologist and writer, she publishes on a wide range of topics, such as feminism and gender studies, literary theory, postcolonial criticism, modernism and postmodernism.
The Keynote Speaker will be introduced by Prof. Dr. Andrii Portnov, Viadrina Center of Polish and Ukrainian Studies

Music (Piano) by Yuriy Seredin
Yuriy Seredin is a pianist and composer, one of the brightest representatives of the Ukrainian jazz scene. His music combines contemporary jazz, minimalism and polyphonic forms, is sometimes almost cinematic and constantly moves on the edge of human drama and meditation; his works are very personal, often with references to specific life situations and personalities.

8.00 pm Concert : GANNA Ensemble
GANNA is an international ethno-jazz ensemble from Berlin for which Ganna composes and arranges. As the voice of Ukrainian resistance, GANNA's artistic work is as beautiful as it is heart-wrenching. A powerful blend of reinterpreted Ukrainian folk songs and modern jazz. Inspired by several musical research trips to different regions of Ukraine, GANNA awakens Ukrainian folklore to a second spring and takes the audience on a journey.
