Promos Scholarship

Are you considering an internship abroad outside the Erasmus area but wondering how to finance it? One option is the PROMOS scholarship, which we offer on behalf of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Whether your destination is America, Asia, or Switzerland, you can apply for a PROMOS scholarship.

Please note that there will be limited scholarships available in 2025, but it's definitely worth applying!

To receive the PROMOS scholarship, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

You must be a student at Viadrina and aim to complete a degree here. Bachelor students can only be funded starting from their 2nd semester.
You have already been accepted for a placement abroad, but the internship should not have started yet.
Your internship must last at least 6 weeks, with a workload of at least 30 hours per week.
Internships within the Erasmus area or those fitting into the DAAD's special tracks, such as international organizations, EU institutions, German missions abroad, Goethe Institutes, and German schools abroad, are not eligible. For internships in the EU and other countries, lower-threshold Erasmus+ funding is available.
You must demonstrate proficiency in the working language at a minimum B2 level (CEFR).
The internship should be relevant to your studies and aid in your professional orientation.
Within a single study phase (BA, MA), you can receive funding from PROMOS for a maximum of 6 months, whether for studies or an internship.
Internships in countries for which the Federal Foreign Office has issued a travel warning are not eligible for funding.
PROMOS scholarships and DAAD individual scholarships cannot be used simultaneously, nor can the internship be funded from other public funds from Germany at the same time.
An internship can be funded only until the end of the current year, though the internship may continue beyond this timeframe.

Before starting your internship, please submit the following application documents to the Career Center:

Application form
CV and letter of motivation detailing the reasons for and objectives of the internship
Confirmation from the internship employer or the internship contract, along with a brief list of the main work tasks during the internship (on a separate sheet if necessary)
Proof of proficiency in the working language at the internship employer (such as certificates from language courses, other relevant certificates, or confirmation from the Viadrina Language Centre)
Score overview (a printout from the HIS portal or a list and copies of certificates)
Certificate of enrolment
Notarized copy of your identity card or passport
if applicable, BAföG notification or notification of funding from other sponsors

You can apply for a PROMOS scholarship as soon as you have secured an internship and ensured that you meet the eligibility criteria. It is best to send your application by email to careercenter@europa-uni.de.

Scholarship recipients will be selected on specific dates. The upcoming selection dates in 2025 are 31 January 2025 and 26 June 2025.

Please note that your application must reach us before the start of your internship, even if the next selection round occurs during your internship

The selection process is conducted by an internal university selection committee based on objective criteria, including:

Qualification and academic performance
Study relevance of the internship
Suitability of the planned stay in relation to prior studies and future career planning
Language skills required for successfully completing the internship

Please be sure to address these points in your letter of motivation!

Selection for the scholarship takes place on specific dates. The upcoming selection dates in 2025 are 31 January 2025 and 28 June 2025. Please ensure that we receive your application before the start of your internship, even if the next selection round is scheduled during your internship.

The funding rates range between EUR 350.00 and EUR 550.00 per month and are determined by the cost of living in the host country. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a lump sum for travel expenses.
