Internship Recognition: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

To get your internship or working student position recognized as an academic achievement, you must submit a report, which includes both an online form and a signed scan, along with a confirmation or certificate from your workplace. Please note that employment or internship contracts are not accepted as proof of employment.

Please read carefully the information on the recognition procedure, available as a PDF under "Links and Downloads", along with the internship guidelines specific to your degree program. It can take up to 8 weeks for the recognition process to be completed.

The internship guidelines of your degree program specify what qualifies as an internship in accordance with the applicable study and examination regulations, as well as the number of ECTS credits awarded in each case.

It's important that most of the activities you engage in are connected to your degree program and require an academic education. Additionally, you must ensure a minimum duration of 4 weeks, or 180 hours for the Business Administration (Wiwi) program.

We do not require information about the type of contract you had, such as whether you were a working student, intern, or student assistant, since this is not requested in the online form and no contract submission is necessary.

Generally, activities at the European University Viadrina, such as being a student employee, peer tutor, or participating on a voluntary basis, cannot be recognized. We want you to gain practical experience beyond the university and to broaden your network.

No, there is no need to register your internship with us before you begin. You should apply for recognition after completing your internship by using the online form and submitting your internship certificate.

The same process applies to working student positions. You can apply for recognition once you have completed the required working hours for the desired number of ECTS credits, which must be confirmed in an (interim) certificate from your place of work.

The login details for the online form for internship recognition are the same as for your student account (access to e-mail, viaCampus, Moodle), e.g. euv999999 and your corresponding password.

We encourage you to obtain a work or internship reference that will enhance your future applications. This reference also helps us verify the credibility of your report.

Requirements for the internship reference:

  • The certificate must be written on the official letterhead of the internship provider or must include the provider's stamp, along with the address and telephone number or email address.
  • The duration of the internship or job must be stated and the number of hours worked per week should be included.
  • A list of the intern's key activities should be provided.
  • The reference must be signed by the responsible contact person at the internship provider.

If the certificate does not specify an end date, the date of issuance will be considered the last day at the workplace.

Due to resource constraints, we do not send email confirmations for receipt of submissions. However, you can be assured that we can track who has completed the online form on our dashboard, even in the event of technical difficulties.

If any documents are missing or if there are any questions, we will reach out to you via email. We kindly ask that you only inquire about the status of your report in cases of urgency.

Applications are not always processed in the order in which the complete documents are received. Justified reasons may lead to certain applications being prioritized.

The recognition of your internship will be completed by registering it in viaCampus, a process that can take up to 8 weeks. We will notify you by email once the registration has been made.
