European University Viadrina joins Berlin School of Economics

Berlin,

By joining the Berlin School of Economics, the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) is offering its young researchers even better support. On 9 October, the Viadrina will be officially welcomed into the network of seven universities and scientific institutions with economics departments from Berlin and Potsdam as part of the annual welcome event at the Humboldt University Berlin.

The primary goal of the Berlin School of Economics is to support economists in the early stages of their careers with the highest academic quality and at an internationally visible level. Doctoral candidates, post-doctoral researchers and professors from the individual institutions benefit from the extensive support programmes offered by the network. "By joining the Berlin School of Economics, we are taking our research funding to a new level of quality," says the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at the European University Viadrina, Prof Dr Karl Keiber.

The Dean explains the concrete added value for the European University Viadrina: "By joining the Berlin School of Economics, young researchers from all Faculties not only have access to a wide range of courses, they also receive cross-institutional feedback. Thanks to the collaboration, the circle of supervisors for dissertation projects can be expanded and productively organised according to research interests." Viadrina professors will also benefit from joining by contributing their expertise to the Berlin School of Economics network and cooperating on joint research and publication projects.

By joining the Berlin School of Economics, the European University Viadrina is intensifying its cooperation with universities in Berlin and Brandenburg and is thus also taking up a recommendation of the German Council of Science and Humanities.

At the welcome event, Viadrina President Prof Dr Eduard Mühle pointed out the mutual benefits for the Viadrina and the network: "For the Viadrina, joining is another important step in supporting reformed career paths in research. It is also in our interest in bridge-building cooperation internationally, but also here in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. As one of two members in Brandenburg, we are proud to represent our location on the border of East-Central and Eastern Europe. We are looking forward to bringing Viadrina's focus on Europe, its past, present and future and what this means for aspects of marketing and entrepreneurship, for example, to the courses at the Berlin School of Economics."

Prof. Dr Roland Strausz, Professor at the Humboldt University Berlin and spokesperson of the Berlin School of Economics, on joining: "We are extremely pleased to welcome the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) as a new member of the Berlin School of Economics and thus strengthen our network with another university from Brandenburg. By joining, the Berlin School of Economics will further expand its expertise in research and teaching, which will benefit our members and especially our early career researchers at the European University Viadrina and the other cooperating institutions in the Berlin School of Economics."
