Milestones of the children's university

2002

The University of Tübingen and the Schwäbisches Tageblatt newspaper organise the first children's university in the German-speaking world. Several thousand children attended the lectures. The Frankfurt (Oder) couple Kerstin Bechly, Prof Kaspar Frey and Susanne Mögle would also like to set up a children's university at the Viadrina. They reach out to the retired teacher Armin Bochmann and get started.

2005

Almost 200 children attended the 1st Viadrina Children's University on 8 June 2005. A total of 900 participants from 30 locations attended all lectures this year.

2006

1,400 children from Frankfurt (Oder) and the districts of Märkisch-Oderland and Oder-Spree come to the 2nd Viadrina Children's University - a record!

2014

The Viadrina Children's University celebrates its tenth anniversary with a small exhibition.

2015

Kerstin Bechly and Susanne Mögle leave the organisation team. Anke Prahtel, Renate Jakowanis and Jutta Zech have joined the team in their place.

2019

The Viadrina Children's University is taking place for the 15th time.

2021 and 2022

Unfortunately, the Viadrina Children's University had to be cancelled in these two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

By the way, Frankfurt (Oder) is just one of over 120 German cities that have a children's university. You can find out more about the history of children's universities throughout Germany at www.die-kinder-uni.de.
